Visiting in November: what to expect

Summer days, cooler nights, a quieter coast and a sea still around 19°C. November at Las Colinas.

Visiting in November: what to expect

Summer days, cooler nights, and a quieter coast.

If you have not yet seen Las Colinas outside the summer months, you may wonder what the estate is like once the season has passed. Is it still a place where you would want to spend time? That is a fair question, and November is a good month to answer it.

Seen from home

Think about November where you live. The light goes early, it is dark by late afternoon, and it is natural to start counting the weeks to spring.

Think also about how a short holiday shows you a place. A short holiday often falls in the busiest weeks, when the beach is full and the restaurants are lively, and you go home with an impression of the place at its busiest. That impression is true, though it covers only one season of the year. If you are thinking of spending real time somewhere, it helps to see it in the months when it simply lives.

That is why I like to describe November. It is the month when the summer crowds have gone and the everyday character of the coast shows.

So here is the month as it is. Here is what November looks like on the estate and along the coast.

The days and the nights

Whenever you visit in November, expect cooler nights but days that still feel like summer. A layer for the evening is useful. In the middle of the day, you will probably want to be outside.

Late afternoon on the course

Compare that with the afternoon you have just imagined at home. Here the afternoon is still daylight, and the evening cools gently afterwards.

The course

Towards the end of November, the Bermuda grass on the championship course moves into its dormant phase. Through the winter the colours of the course change.

The grass turns a lighter green and then, by mid-winter, brown, while the fairways are treated to stay green and the surrounding rough takes on a different colour. It gives the course a different look from the one you may remember from the summer. You see the same holes with another palette.

The coast

The towns along the beaches go into winter mode. Some of the restaurants that serve the summer tourists close for the season. The mainstay quality restaurants stay open, so there is still good food to be found.

There are fewer tourists, and more of the visitors you meet are here to be active: golf, tennis, padel and cycling. The estate also has nature trails and three restaurants.

The beaches are quieter, and the sea is still warm enough to swim in. On this stretch of coast the water averages about 19°C in November, a little cooler towards the end of the month.

The weather, honestly

On the whole, it is still arguably the best climate on mainland Europe, and the contrast with a northern November is easy to feel.

Who November suits

If your days are built around being active, November is a natural time to come. The visitors who are here are here for golf, tennis, padel or cycling, and the pace of the coast has slowed to match. If you prefer to walk, the estate has nature trails.

If you are curious about the Costa Blanca outside the season, November is a good place to start. You see the beach towns in winter mode, you see which restaurants stay open, and you see for yourself how the place feels when the summer visitors have left. That is a useful way to get to know a place.

What a November visit adds up to

Put together, November on the estate means days that feel like summer, cooler nights, a course with its autumn look, quieter beaches, water you can still swim in, and the quality restaurants open, on the estate and along the coast. You could spend a morning on the course or the trails, an afternoon in the warmth, and an evening at one of the estate's restaurants.

If you are weighing up spending more of your year here, a November visit gives you a picture of how the place feels when it is simply lived in.

If you are planning a visit, I am happy to help you make the most of it.

Sea temperature: November averages for Torrevieja, about 19°C (Weather2Travel, Meerestemperatur, Seatemperature). This article is general information.
